Workshop for Continuing Education Credit

Getting Rid of Psychic Clutter
Leslie Reynolds-Benns, PhD

The workshop covers in-depth, the material from Dr. Reynolds-Benns new book release, Confession is Good for More than the Soul, a guide and comprehensive workbook for living a life free of the internal clutter that causes us to repeat our "same-old" patterns and lose our aliveness and effectiveness in the world.

"Confession is Good for More than the Soul is a guide to living a life free of the clutter collected in our psyches during our powerless lives as children, through our fragile teen-aged years and into our often self-righteous adulthood," explains the author. "Unburdened by the past, which colors our choices in the present, we are free to choose new lives, new relationships and new positions in the world."

Some comments from participants:

"...a vital dynamic approach to identify and release obstacles to personal and professional growth...try it!"
– Mel Nosanchuk, Ph.D. Psychologist

"A good opportunity for professionals to get clear on those layers of the onion we were going to get to "one day"
– K. Rekoutis

"The confession workshop gave me a clear idea of how to use Dr. Leslie's techniques with my own clients. It also provided me an opportunity to clear up some of my own clutter so I can be ever more present with my clients. There isn't anyone on the planet who wouldn't benefit from this book."
– Mary Cosgrove, Limbo Coach

Who Should Attend?

Since people who read and do the work advocated in Confession is Good for More than the Soul will need someone to read their distilled "confession" to, these listeners will most likely be psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists and CD and pastoral counselors.

Other People who will benefit from the workshop:

People who are committed to personal growth.

People who find themselves in the “same old” place one more time. In the same old relationship. In the same old situation. With the same old boss, even after a job change. The same old clients.

People who are experiencing repetitive patterns that they haven’t had access to–sometimes even with a therapist.

People who have lost their aliveness. People who have settled for less than their ideal life.

People who have nagging discomfort that they can’t identify or don’t seem to be able to alleviate.

People who are committed to transformation of this planet.

Course PurposeGetting Rid of Psychic Clutter

In the workshop, you will be exposed to a possibly different way of looking at the psyche and how we create our own reality, either consciously or unconsciously (Session 1). We will then turn to the nine areas Dr. Reynolds-Benns covers in her workbook:

Religion and Spirituality
Living and Dying in Relationship
Transition from Power Over to Personal Power
Sex and Gender
Human Rights
War and Peace
Physical Health and Well-Being
Relationship with Institutions
Environmental Stewardship

You will have an opportunity to pick the one area that might be most in the way of your serving your clients effectively, or an area where you might be vulnerable to counter transference. We will discuss how to use the Inventory section and what value you may get. You'll have an opportunity to work on that a bit then and at lunch and more afterwards (Session 2 and part of 3).

Then, since therapists and counselors will most often be asked to "listen" to these prepared confessions, we'll discuss the guidelines for listening and do exercises that show how poor our capacity to listen really is and how much and how often we are, once again, distracted by our own clutter (Session 3). We then finish up with a discussion of how to reduce the effects of countertransference and move toward a clutter-free life (Session 4).

The course runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with two 15-minute breaks and a one-hour break for lunch. The course will have two sessions in the morning and two in the afternoon.

Course Objectives – Getting Rid of Psychic Clutter

The participant will be able to:
Integrate "Confession" and "Clutter" into their practices
Demonstrate improvement in their "listening skills."
Distinguish their own areas of vulnerability to clutter and counter-transference.
Identify ways of reducing the effects of counter-transference and moving toward a clutter-free life.
